The event also caught the eye of many leading media outlets including the Washington Post and C-SPAN, who aired interviews from the conference on "The Communicators," its new weekly series featuring interviews with "the people who shape our digital future." The latest show, which aired Saturday on C-SPAN and Monday on C-SPAN2, featured interviews with our Publisher & CEO, Ned Sherman; Robert Quicksilver, Chief Content Officer, Tidal TV; Ashwin Navin, President & Co-Founder, Bit Torrent; and Alan Warms, General Manager, Yahoo News. The interviews cover the conference, the state of broadband television, the future of online news and the sharing of software and media content over the Internet. Track B Panel: The Coming Open Wireless Network? Hype vs. Reality
For years, the holy grail of mobile content providers and device makers in
the U.S. has been the development of an “open wireless network” that allows
content providers to communicate directly to users without first gaining
permission (or paying tolls) to carriers. Recent announcements by Verizon
Wireless (along with the growth of the iPhone and moves by Google) have
fueled hope that an open network will eventually come to fruition. What is
the reality — and what is the hype — of the recent announcements? What are
the implications for content providers?
